Christmas knitting

20 Dec

I don’t know if I’ve channeled Santa’s workshop/elf labor mentality or what, but it’s been dishcloth city here at Condo Manor.
Behold the 5 dishcloths, adorably arranged, if I do say so myself. I’m making them for my mom and sisters, as I mentioned before and I love how they’re coming out. I’m going to make a couple for my kitchen as soon as my thumbs heal from all the slipped stitches & worsted weight yarn on size 7 needles. So far I’ve got 5 made & 1 or 2 more to make.img_0502.jpg

Yes, I’m stuck. Why do you ask?

17 Dec

This morning, I dug my car out – I didn’t park in my favorite spot & I wish I had. To me, the corner spots are the worst to get your car out of after a snowstorm. Don’t know why, it’s just how I feel. As I was shoveling out my back tire – sitting on a snowbank – one of my neighbors comes out, on his way to work. This is the same guy who always has at least 7-9 empty wine bottles in his recycling bin every week. I sincerely hope he just works at or owns a liquor store but if that’s the case, how does he make any money?
I present the following conversation:
Neighbor/possible lush: Are you stuck?
Me: Um, yes, but I think it’s just my back tires.
N/pl: Oh.
He continues walking to his car and proceeds to start clearing out his own car.
Maybe I’m weird, but I thought he might offer to help me. I’m not bitter about it but just think it was weird to ask if you weren’t going to offer to help. Right?
On the other hand, I don’t have to feel obligated to help him with anything now, do I?

Snowy von snowday

13 Dec

This is what I’d change my name to if I could. Normally I work 2-10pm but I got the call at 9 am from a co-worker. The campus is closed & that includes the library. Sometimes it doesn’t include us – for some crazy reason we are now considered “essential” – even when the state’s governor declares it a state of emergency. So I’m still in my jammies, drinking the first of many coffees.

And on top of it all, this was a 4 day weekend for me anyway(not working Sunday or Monday) so now it’s a 5 day and I get paid for today!!!

I’ll stop boasting now.

worth another look(again).

I changed the header to something I think is pretty festive. Downright cute. The girl I live with is very crafty. Seriously, as crafty as Martha, the only reason she isn’t more crafty is that we don’t have M’s money.
Anyway, a couple years ago she made gift tags for everyone she gave a Christmas present to or at least me, her parents & sister. I kept mine b/c I loved it and posted it on my bulletin board. A few weeks ago, I was thinking about what I could use for a unique header and I saw this. We scanned it, cropped it and there it is up there, all cute & adorable. And festive. I forgot to say festive again.

I also want to mention that while I’m not exactly giving too many knit gifts this year, I am making Mason-Dixon warshrags for my mom & sisters. 2 each. I’ve got 3 done and started the 4th last night while watching Grey’s Anatomy & Dirty Sexy Money on the ABC website. Oh & you know what I found on ABC’s website??? My So-Called Life!!! – I already have the dvds(I got the old ones, way before the new/fancy dvds came out, the Christmas after I got a dvd player).  And reminds me of just how much I love and adore Ed Zwick & Marshall Herskovitz, not to mention Winnie Holzman. Seriously.
Now when’s that 3rd season of Once and Again coming to dvd?? It’s winter, it’s cold, I wanna hunker down with some knitting & drama.

Finished Odessa hat!

6 Dec

I finished a hat, took pictures of it & am now posting about it. Amazing. I started the Odessa hat the night before Thanksgiving(you know, b/c I didn’t have enough to do), intending for it to be mine, but JV liked it so much & because I don’t have more Cashsoft DK in my stash that she liked, I decided I’d give it to her.

Details: You can see the hat here
Odessa, by Grumperina
Yarn: RYC Cashsoft DK, colorway SH505, purchased at WEBS
Started Nov 21 & finished Nov 30th
Modifications: none

I followed the pattern faithfully but I had no worries – it was written very well, as usual by Grumperina. I thought I would have to add another half inch before the pattern decreases but because JV could try it on as I knit, we decided it would be fine.
It has been possibly the quickest thing I’ve knit so far and I didn’t work on it too steadily all week. I probably could have finished it in 3 or 4 nights of tv knitting.

And now I’ve got a lovely mint color that will be another Odessa. And I think this one might be a gift too.
