a crafty rut

29 Jan

I am in a rut as far as my crafts go. I’d really like to participate in Project Spectrum 3: Elements(I love the idea) but other than knitting, I’m not really crafty. With the new camera, I’m trying out photography and I’d love to spin some yarn(one problem – still haven’t bought a spindle).

The only things I do all the time are knit, which I can do while watching tv. That’s part of what I love about knitting, as weird as that may sound. It makes me feel like I’m being productive even when I’m not.

I”m signing up for Project Spectrum & I’m going to try being crafty in new ways…wish me luck!!

Saturday Night Movie: Superbad

20 Jan

Last night we watched Superbad. To be honest, it wasn’t my favorite movie ever, about on par plot-wise with American Pie but actually closer in humor & writing to The 40-Year-Old Virgin. It was funny, had some ‘humor’ I thought was completely unnecessary but overall, showed heart.

But the bright spot – Michael Cera. How much do I love Michael Cera?? He’s so good at playing an awkward teen, like he did in Arrested Development. I cannot wait to see him in Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, a YA book which I loved. I might not have cast him as Nick but the more I think about it, the more I like the pairing.

So that’s my lame review.

Trust

17 Jan

We’ve had the cats, Bentley & Mia, for 13 months now. We rescued them from a local no-kill shelter on December 10, 2006. It was a Sunday, so I had to go to work, leaving jv home with the kitties.
That first night, Bentley was in love with jv right away – sitting on her lap within hours. Mia just looked at him, as if to say, what are you doing? – getting her to love & trust us has been an uphill battle it has seemed to me. But lately, every morning around 9:30-10:00, as she’s watching the birds outside, she allows me to hold her. I put my hand under her back feet and she tucks her front legs under her. If it were yoga, I think it would be called the Snail pose.
I usually stand like this for as long as I can – no more than 15 minutes, as I have stuff to do. But I really try to make sure I do it because it feels like we’re bonding and it’s the only time she lets anyone hold her for any amount of time, really.
I love my cats.
