Upon Further Inspection:

15 Jul

Firefly does rock.  We tried again, mostly out of boredom.  Once past the first episode, it was actually good.  Now we must seek out Serenity: the Movie for story completion.  I have so many questions that need answering.  And also?  Worst theme song ever.  I don’t care if Joss Whedon wrote it himself, I hated it.

This is unrelated but I’m excited b/c this month marks One Life to Live’s 40th anniversary.  They’re going to be re-visioning certain stories – like when Asa & Bo were in Buchanan City, only this time, the adult Bo will play Asa and Rex will play a young Bo!  So excited.  I love the Rex/Bo dynamic – the banter is as funny as any prime time show, which may not be saying too much, but still.  It makes me laugh.

We want to see Batman: The Dark Knight but should we go this weekend?   I really love Christian Bale & love him as Batman.  And it makes me want to see Batman Begins again.  Perhaps I’ll order it for work.

ongoing stuff

hey there. things have been busy for the past couple weeks. i’ve finished working 8-4 for the summer(it went by quick!) and i miss it already. i really am resentful of getting home at 9pm every night. so i’ve been job hunting and applying for a few different positions – keep your fingers crossed for me, ok?  i feel like i’ll need some luck!

here’s some disappointment: today at Target, Firefly was on sale for $17.99, so we figured, why not? we put it in – it’s boring. couldn’t even finish the first episode. anyone out there – does it get better? should we try again? i hate to lose faith in Joss Whedon.

Saturday Night Movie: Superbad

20 Jan

Last night we watched Superbad. To be honest, it wasn’t my favorite movie ever, about on par plot-wise with American Pie but actually closer in humor & writing to The 40-Year-Old Virgin. It was funny, had some ‘humor’ I thought was completely unnecessary but overall, showed heart.

But the bright spot – Michael Cera. How much do I love Michael Cera?? He’s so good at playing an awkward teen, like he did in Arrested Development. I cannot wait to see him in Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, a YA book which I loved. I might not have cast him as Nick but the more I think about it, the more I like the pairing.

So that’s my lame review.

worth another look(again).

I changed the header to something I think is pretty festive. Downright cute. The girl I live with is very crafty. Seriously, as crafty as Martha, the only reason she isn’t more crafty is that we don’t have M’s money.
Anyway, a couple years ago she made gift tags for everyone she gave a Christmas present to or at least me, her parents & sister. I kept mine b/c I loved it and posted it on my bulletin board. A few weeks ago, I was thinking about what I could use for a unique header and I saw this. We scanned it, cropped it and there it is up there, all cute & adorable. And festive. I forgot to say festive again.

I also want to mention that while I’m not exactly giving too many knit gifts this year, I am making Mason-Dixon warshrags for my mom & sisters. 2 each. I’ve got 3 done and started the 4th last night while watching Grey’s Anatomy & Dirty Sexy Money on the ABC website. Oh & you know what I found on ABC’s website??? My So-Called Life!!! – I already have the dvds(I got the old ones, way before the new/fancy dvds came out, the Christmas after I got a dvd player).  And reminds me of just how much I love and adore Ed Zwick & Marshall Herskovitz, not to mention Winnie Holzman. Seriously.
Now when’s that 3rd season of Once and Again coming to dvd?? It’s winter, it’s cold, I wanna hunker down with some knitting & drama.

Something I noticed about Oprah.

12 Oct

It’s not a criticism but I think Oprah is newly obsessed with transgender individuals. Ever since the book Middlesex(which I own in hardcover & really have to read one of these days, since I do love Jeffrey Eugenides).
I mean, I love them too – I think they’re really brave and it’s great that they’re embracing what they really feel. But this is the 3rd or 4th episode I’ve seen advertised on my CBS affiliate that has transsexuals as subject.
I’ll say this: at least she’s giving them airtime. The one episode I saw last week had 2 young adults on – one was a 17 year old former girl & the other was a 21 year old former boy. Oprah was extremely respectful and kind toward them. And today, there are transgender families on. I’ll have to watch.
